Stand up paddle boarding on a few little waves at Maverick’s
This paddle boarding video was shot at Maverick’s, a huge wave that breaks a half-mile off the coast of Half Moon Bay, CA. The waves here can sometimes get 80 ft. That is big wave charger Ian Wallace. I’m paddle boarding right behind him. You can see me at around 14 seconds. This day the waves were about 20ft. It shows you the capabilities of SUP.
Outrigger Race in Southern California
This next video is 9-man outrigger racing. Outrigger paddling is thousands of years old. In 1521, Ferdinand Magellan was sailing around the globe in search of a southern route to Asia, when he discovered the Chamorros in Guam in sailing outriggers. Their speed and maneuverability far surpassed his big boat. My mother is from Guam, so that makes me an expert authority on the subject. I will teach you this stroke.
