I met Ryan several years ago when Krista made me get rid of some of my surfboards. The first to go was my very first big wave gun. A few days after listing it for sale, this very determined 16 yr. old kid shows up at my door with his dad. He was looking for something he could ride monster waves with.
I didn’t feel comfortable selling a weapon of mass destruction to a kid. What if he went out and killed himself…how would I deal with that? So, I took him on as a student and passed on all the knowledge I had in taking on giant waves. Over the years I’ve seen this young grom become quite the waterman, earning his spot in some of the heaviest and most dangerous surfing lineups on the West Coast. Ryan is one of the young guns at Maverick’s, Todos Santos, Nelscott Reef and Waimea Bay. He is someone to keep an eye on in the sport of big wave riding.
I lured him away from his high profile gig, where he was teaching all the fancy people in Malibu how to surf and SUP. He’s a college student and will be helping Krista and me this summer.
That being said, we are pleased to announce our newest addition to the team, Ryan Krouse!
